  • 1987 – The Pittsburgh Pirates retire Bill Mazeroski’s jersey (#9).


  • 1999 – Wade Boggs, then playing for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, becomes the 23rd player in MLB history to reach 3,000 career hits. He’s the first player to have his 3,000th hit be a home run.

  • 2004 – Greg Maddux becomes the 22nd pitcher in MLB history to win 300 career games.

  • 2007 – Barry Bonds hits career home run #756, passing Hank Aaron for the most in baseball history.

  • 2010 – Jerry Rice & Emmitt Smith are among the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees.
