1917 – The NHL forms with franchises in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Quebec.

1960 – The new MLB team in Minnesota officially makes their name “The Twins”.

1960 – Alabama defeats Auburn 3-0 in the 25th “Iron Bowl.” 

1984 – NHL legend Guy Lafleur retires after a 14 year career with the Montreal Canadiens. Lafleur scored 518 career goals.

1994 – Portage falls short in the football state finals, losing to Castle 30-12.

1995 – Dan Marino sets an NFL record by throwing his 343rd career touchdown pass. 

1996 – By a 26-5 vote, MLB owners approve interleague play.

1999 – Detroit Red Wings forward Steve Yzerman scores his 600th career goal.

2005 – The Lowell Red Devils win the football state championship, beating Roncalli 28-27.

2010 – Auburn beats Alabama 28-27 in the 75th “Iron Bowl.”
