1934 – The Brooklyn Dodgers hire Casey Stengal as their manager.

1938 – Joe Louis knocks out Nathan Mann in the third round to defend his world heavyweight title.

1968 – Wilt Chamberlain becomes the first player in NBA history to score 25,000 career points.

1985 – Legendary goalie Patrick Roy makes his NHL debut, suiting up for the Montreal Canadiens.

1985 – Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight is ejected five minutes into a game against Purdue for throwing a chair across the court.

1987 – Nate McMillan of the Seattle SuperSonics sets an NBA rookie record by recording 25 assists in a game.

1988 – The City of Chicago gives the Cubs permission to install lights at Wrigley Field and play up to 18 night games.

1991 – North Carolina is the first NCAA men’s basketball program to win 1,500 games in their history.

2013 – Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche compete in the UFC’s first ever women’s fight. Rousey wins via armbar in the first.
