1897 – William Joyce of the New York Giants sets an MLB record by hitting four triples in one game.

1912 – The Detroit Tigers are forced to use amateur players after their regular roster boycotts a game against the A’s in protest of Ty Cobb’s suspension. The A’s win 24-2.

1933 – Major League Baseball announces that the first ever All-Star game will take place at Comiskey Park on July 6 as part of the Chicago World’s Fair.

1942 – The City of New York announces that it is ending night baseball games for the duration of World War II.

1956 – Mickey Mantle sets an MLB record by hitting home runs from both sides of the plate in the same game for the third time in his career.

1971 – The Montreal Canadiens defeat the Blackhawks in game seven to win the Stanley Cup. Montreal’s Frank Mahovlich scores twice in the 4-2 win.

1990 – Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg commits an error after a 123 game streak without one. The 123 games is the most for a second baseman in MLB history.

1990 – Edmonton Oilers winger Jari Kurri sets an NHL record for goals in Stanley Cup history, scoring his 90th post-season goal in a win over the Bruins.

2001 – 101 year old Harold Stilson becomes the oldest golfer to record a hole in one, acing a 108 yard par three hole at Deerfield Country Club in Florida.

2004 – Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson throws a perfect game, shutting down the Atlanta Braves.

2021 – Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull no-hits the Seattle Mariners 5-0
