1969 – Roy Campanella and Stan Musial are elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
1984 – The Raiders beat Washington 38-9 to win Super Bowl XVIII. Raiders RB Marcus Allen is named MVP.
1989 – The 49ers beat the Bengals 20-16 to win Super Bowl XXIII. After the game, Niners coach Bill Walsh announces his retirement.
1998 – Rickey Henderson joins the Oakland A’s for the fourth time in his career.
2006 – Kobe Bryant scores 81 points in a Lakers victory over the Raptors. It is the second most points scored in a single game in NBA history.
2018 – In a win over the Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans forward DeMarcus Cousins scores 44 points, grabs 24 rebounds, and dishes out 10 assists. It’s the first game with 40+ points, 20+ rebounds and 10+ assists since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1972.
