1960 – With a goal and an assist in a win over the Blackhawks, Gordie Howe becomes the NHL’s all-time leading scorer with 947 career points.
1966 – Chicago is granted an NBA expansion franchise, its third franchise up to this point.
1966 – Bobby Hull becomes the first player in Blackhawks history to score 300 career goals.
1970 – Curt Flood files a lawsuit challenging baseball’s reserve clause. The suit would eventually pave the way for free agency.
1972 – The Cowboys beat the Dolphins 24-3 to win Super Bowl VI. Dallas QB Roger Staubach is named the game’s MVP.
1988 – The NFL’s St. Louis Cardinals announce they are moving to Phoenix.
2019 – Steph Curry becomes the first player in NBA history to hit eight or more three-pointers in three consecutive games.
2019 – James Harden becomes the first player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1962 to score 55 or more points in back to back nights.
2020 – Carlos Beltran is let go as manager of the Mets before he manages a single game due to the fallout of the Astros cheating scandal. Beltran was a player on the Astros when the cheating occurred.
