1927 – The “Golden Egg Trophy” is presented for the first time in the Egg Bowl rivalry between Mississippi and Mississippi State, then known as Mississippi A&M. Ole Miss wins it 20-12.
1960 – Philadelphia Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain sets an NBA record by hauling in 55 rebounds in a loss to the Celtics.
1964 – Notre Dame QB John Huarte wins the Heisman Trophy.
1982 – Baltimore Oriole Cal Ripken Jr. wins American League Rookie of the Year.
1989 – Bishop Noll wins the Class 3A football state championship, beating Roncalli 20-14.
2000 – TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson totals 2,158 rushing yards on the season, the fourth highest total in NCAA football history.
2001 – The Valparaiso Vikings football team finishes as state runner-up, falling to Ben Davis in the state championship 35-16.
2010 – Mark Recchi of the Boston Bruins becomes the 13th player in NHL history to record 1,500 career points.
2011 – John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens beat Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers in the first game to feature two brothers as the head coaches.
2015 – The Golden State Warriors set the NBA record for best start in NBA history, opening the season 16-0.
