1964 – Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings becomes the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer with 627 career goals.

1966 – Muhammad Ali TKOs Cleveland Williams for the heavyweight title.

1969 – The Andrean 59ers football team finishes a second straight undefeated season, beating Morton 16-6.

1970 – A plane crash in West Virginia kills 75 people, including 37 members of the Marshall University football team and coaching staff.

1993 – The Miami Dolphins beat the Eagles 19-14, giving coach Don Shula his 325th career win, the most in NFL history.
