1910 – Cleveland Indians pitcher Cy Young gets his 500th career win.


1912 – American League president Ban Johnson tells the Detroit Tigers that if they continue to sit out games in protest of Ty Cobb’s suspension that they will be banned from baseball.

1935 – The NFL approves an annual collegiate draft to begin in 1936.

1960 – Future Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal makes his MLB debut, pitching for the San Francisco Giants. He throws a one hitter against the Phillies.

1962 – Stan Musial picks up career hit #3,431, passing Honus Wagner for the most in National League history.

1974 – The Philadelphia Flyers win the Stanley Cup, defeating the Boston Bruins in game six. The Flyers are the first post-1967 expansion team to win the Cup.

1984 – The Edmonton Oilers win their first Stanley Cup, beating the New York Islanders in a five game series.

1991 – Willy T. Ribbs becomes the first African-American drive to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

2015 – The NFL announces that they are moving extra point attempts back to the 15 yard line.
