1968 – Jimmy Ellis wins the world heavyweight title with a decision over Jerry Quarry. This is the championship match of an eight man tournament to award Muhammad Ali’s vacated title.

1983 – Nolan Ryan, then with the Astros, broke the MLB record, held by Walter Johnson, by recording career strikeout #3,509.

1990 – Villanova’s women’s track team sets a record in the 6,000 meter relay with a time of 17:18:0.

2009 – The Denver Nuggets tie the NBA record for largest playoff victory, routing the New Orleans Hornets 121-63 in their first round matchup. The 58 point margin of victory matches the Minneapolis Lakers over the St. Louis Hawks in 1956.

2017 – Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is the first overall pick to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL Draft.
