1959 – The White Sox defeat the KC Athletics 20-6. In one inning of the game, the Sox score 11 runs on one hit, 10 walks and three errors.
1987 – The NBA grants expansion franchises to Charlotte, Miami, Minnesota, and Orlando. Charlotte and Miami would join the league in the 1988-89 season while Minnesota and Orlando join in 1989-90.
1988 – Patrik Sundstrom of the New Jersey Devils sets and NHL playoff record with eight points, via three goals and five assists, in a 10-4 win over the Capitals.
1990 – The Colts select University of Illinois quarterback, and Warren Central grad, Jeff George with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.
1991 – White Sox slugger Frank Thomas hits the first home run at the new Comiskey Park.
1994 – Michael Moorer defeats Evander Holyfield to win the IBF and WBA heavyweight boxing titles. WIth the win, Moorer becomes the first left-handed heavyweight champion.
1995 – Penn State running back Ki-Jana Carter is the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals.
2003 – Legendary NHL goaltender Patrick Roy plays in his final NHL game.
2007 – The Red Sox tie a MLB record by hitting four straight home runs as Manny Ramirez, JD Drew, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek hit consecutive shots.
2010 – The St. Louis Rams draft Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the first overall draft pick.
2014 – Albert Pujols becomes the first player in MLB history to hit career home runs #499 and #500 in the same game.
