1942 – The Thoroughbred Racing Association of the United States is formed.

1955 – San Francisco wins the NCAA men’s basketball tournament with a 77-63 victory over LaSalle. San Francisco’s Bill Russell is named Most Outstanding Player.

1956 – The Minneapolis Lakes set a record for the biggest rout in NBA playoff history with a 133-75 win over the St. Louis Hawks.

1960 – Ohio State wins the NCAA men’s basketball tournament with a 75-55 victory against California.

1966 – Texas Western beats Kentucky 72-65 to win the NCAA men’s basketball national championship.

1991 – St. Louis Blues forward Brett Hull becomes the third player in NHL history to score 80 goals in a season.

1991 – NFL owners strip the city of Phoenix of the 1993 Super Bowl after the state of Arizona refuses to acknowledge Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

1995 – Michael Jordan plays in his first game after un-retiring on March 18th. Wearing #45, he scores 19 points on 7-28 shooting in a loss to the Pacers.

2011 – Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski wins his 900th career game as the Blue Devils beat Michigan to advance to the Sweet 16.

2015 – Georgia State’s RJ Hunter hits a three with 2.7 seconds left to give his team an upset win over #3 seed Baylor in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

2019 – Houston Rockets guard James Harden becomes the first player in NBA history to score at least 30 points against all 29 franchises in a single season.

2022 – LeBron James passes Karl Malone for second on the NBA all-time scoring list.
