1981 – Wayne Gretzky becomes the first player in NHL history to record five hat tricks before he turns 21 years old.

1986 – San Antonio’s Alvin Robertson records the second quadruple-double in NBA history, scoring 20 points to go along with 11 boards, 10 assists, and 10 steals.

1995 – John Stockton becomes the first player in NBA history to record 10,000 career assists.

2001 – NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt is killed in a crash on the last lap of the Daytona 500.
