1904 – The St. Louis Olympics come to a close. They are the first Olympic games to take place in the US.

1943 – Philadelphia Phillies owner William D. Cox is banned from baseball for life after placing a bet on his team.

1968 – The Bulls trade for Bob Love from the Bucks. Love would go on to be a three time All-Star and have his jersey retired by the team.

1975 – Vikings QB Fran Tarkenton completes the 2,480th pass of his career, giving him the most in NFL history.

1984 – Boston College QB, Doug Flutie, throws for 472 yards against Miami (FL), including a Hail Mary to win the game. 

1988 – Wayne Gretzky scores the 600th goal of his career. 

1990 – River Forest falls just short in the football state championship, losing to Indy Scecina 28-27.

1991 – The Sacramento Kings end a 43 game road losing streak, beating the Magic 95-93.
