1949 – Jackie Robinson wins the NL MVP Award.

1949 – EC Roosevelt finishes an undefeated football season by beating SB Riley 32-6.

1966 – Dodgers great Sandy Koufax announces his retirement due to an elbow injury.

1970 – Joe Frazier knocks out Bob Foster in the second round to retain the world heavyweight title.

1987 – Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson becomes the first player in MLB history to win an MVP Award despite playing for a last place team.

1995 – Iowa State’s Troy Davis becomes just the fifth player in NCAA Division I football history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season.

2000 – IU quarterback Antwaan Randle El becomes the second player in NCAA Division I football history to tally 200 career points rushing while also passing for 200 career points.

2005 – The Lowell Red Devils defeat FW South 16-14 to win semi-state.
