THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY: 11/10

1934 – The first penalty shot in NHL is awarded to Montreal Canadiens forward Armand Mondou. The shot is stopped by Maple Leafs goalie George Hainsworth.

1940 – The Steelers and Eagles play in one of only four penalty free games in NFL history. The Steelers won 7-3.

1960 – The Hammond High Wildcats win the AP state title with a 19-7 win over Michigan City.

1963 – Gordie Howe scores career goal #545, passing Maurice Richard for the most in NHL history.

1975 – The Royals release slugger Harmon Killebrew, ending his 22 year career.

1989 – The Bishop Noll Warriors football team wins the only regional title in program history, to date, beating NorthWood 42-14.

1991 – Bernie Kosar’s NFL record streak of 308 passes without an interception comes to an end.

2006 – Playing in a storm, the LaPorte Slicers football team wins the first regional championship in program history, beating Crown Point 28-21.
