1924 – The White Sox and New York Giants play in an exhibition game in Dublin, Ireland. Fewer than 20 people attend.

1950 – University of Nevada punter Pat Brody sets an NCAA record by booting a 99 yard punt.

1962 – New York Giants quarterback YA Tittle throws for seven touchdowns in a game against Washington.

1973 – Lakers center Elmore Smith sets an NBA record by blocking 17 shots in a game.

1993 – Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ron Francis tallies his 1,000th career point.

1997 – The NBA hires Dee Kantner and Violet Palmer as full time referees. It’s the first time a major pro sports league in the US hires female officials.
