1917 – The White Sox beat the Giants to win the World Series.

1969 – Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver becomes the first manager ejected from a World Series game since 1935.

1979 – The New York Knicks retire Walt Frazier’s #10.

1986 – The Mets and Astros play in the longest postseason game in MLB history with the Mets winning in 16 innings.

1987 – The NFL and NFLPA come to an agreement to end a 24 day strike.

1988 – Kirk Gibson of the Dodgers hits a home run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to give LA a win in game one of the World Series.

1989 – Wayne Gretzky passes Gordie Howe to become the NHL’s all-time leading scorer.

1995 – The Carolina Panthers win first game in existence over the Jets, 26-15. 

2003 – The Marlins beat the Cubs in game seven to win the NLCS.
