1927 – Babe Ruth becomes the highest paid player in baseball, signing a three year contract with the Yankees which paid him $70,000 per season.

1941 – Blackhawks goalie Sam LoPresti faces an NHL record 83 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Bruins.

1962 – Wilt Chamberlain scores 50 plus points for the fifth straight game, also adding 58 assists.

1981 – Guy LaFleur of the Montreal Canadiens scores his 1,000^th career point.

1990 – Loyola Marymount’s Hank Gathers collapses and dies on the court during a West Coast Conference game against Portland. He was just 23 years old.

2015 – Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook becomes the first player since Michael Jordan in 1989 to record triple-doubles in four consecutive games.
