1920 – The Montreal Canadiens set an NHL record for goals in a game by routing the Quebec Bulldogs 16-3.

1950 – The National-American Football league changes its name back to the National Football League after three months.

1951 – Temple’s Bill Mlkvy sets an NCAA record by putting up 73 points in a win over Wilkes.

1953 – The Boston Braves, who own the minor league team in Milwaukee, block the St. Louis Browns from moving there.

1969 – Jean Beliveau of the Montreal Canadiens becomes the second player in NHL history to score 1,000 career points.

1984 – Major League Baseball owners select Peter Ueberroth as the sport’s new commissioner.

1987 – Mike Tyson wins the WBA heavyweight title by beating James “Bonecrusher” Smith in a unanimous 12 round decision.
