THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY: 11/21

1934 – The Yankees buy Joe DiMaggio’s contract from the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League.

1942 – EC Washington wins a mythical football state title, beating SB Washington 27-6.

1949 – Bill Veeck sells the Cleveland Indians for $22 million in order to pay for his divorce settlement.

1969 – Six years after he last played for the Boston Celtics, Bob Cousy returns to pro basketball, suiting up for the Cincinnati Royals. He would play in a total of seven games, appearing mostly in garbage time.

1997 – The Griffith Panthers win their first, and to date only, football semi-state title, beating FW Dwenger 35-21.
