1961 – Roger Maris hits his 60th home run of the season, tying Babe Ruth’s record for most in a single season.

1962 – Dodgers shortstop Maury Wills becomes the first player in MLB history to steal 100 bases in a season.

1978 – A New York District Court judge rules that female sportswriters cannot be banned from locker rooms.

1996 – Barry Bonds becomes the second player in MLB history to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in a season.

1998 – Prairie View A&M football ends an 80 game losing streak by beating Langston 14-12. The losing streak began in 1989. 

2004 – Runner Ed Whitlock becomes the first person over 70 years old to complete a marathon in under three hours.
