1970 – Monday Night Football makes its debut with the Browns beating the Jets 31-21.
1971 – The American League approves the Washington Senators moving to Arlington and changing their name to the Texas Rangers.
1981 – Steve Carlton sets a National League record with career strikeout #3,118.
1982 – NFL players begin a 52 day strike.
1991 – USA Basketball announces the members of the “Dream Team” that will participate in the 1992 Olympics.
2008 – The Yankees play in the final game at Yankee Stadium, with a new Yankee Stadium opening in 2009.
