1953 – The American League approves the St. Louis Browns move to Baltimore, where the team would be renamed the Orioles.

1973 – Buffalo Bills running back OJ Simpson sets an NFL record by rushing for 250 yards in a game against the Patriots.

1975 – Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Rennie Stennett becomes the second player in MLB history to go 7-7 at the plate during a nine inning game, as part of a 22-0 Pirates rout of the Cubs at Wrigley.

1988 – Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tom Browning throws a perfect game against the Dodgers.

1989 – #1 Notre Dame beats #2 Michigan 24-19 in Ann Arbor thanks to Raghib “Rocket” Ismail returning two kickoffs for touchdowns

1993 – Dave Winfield of the Minnesota Twins picks up career hit #3,000.

1996 – Also joining the 3,000 hit club is Paul Molitor. He’s the first player to reach the milestone by hitting a triple.

2000 – Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa becomes the second player in MLB history to hit 50 or more homers in three consecutive seasons.

2007 – Jim Thome, then with the White Sox, becomes the 23rd player in MLB history to hit 500 career home runs.

2018 – Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sets an NFL record by throwing  a combined 10 touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season.
