1894 – A boxing match is captured on film for the first time as William K.L. Dickson, an employee of Thomas Edison, films the exhibition bout between James J. Corbett and Peter Courtney.

1958 – Pirates outfielder Roberto Clemente ties an MLB record by hitting three triples in a game.

1963 – Braves pitcher Warren Spahn ties Christy Mathewson’s record of 13 seasons with 20 wins.

1965 – Bert Campaneris of the A’s plays in all nine positions in one game.

1985 – Pete Rose ties Ty Cobb’s hit record by picking up career hit #4,191.

1993 – The American League officially approves MLB’s plan to switch to three divisions in each league.

1998 – Mark McGwire breaks Roger Maris’ home run record by hitting his 62nd homer of the season.

2002 – The Houston Texans defeat the Dallas Cowboys 19-10 to become just the second expansion team ever to win their first ever game.
