1906 – St. Louis University quarterback Bradbury Robinson throws the first legal forward pass in American football history, throwing a touchdown to Jack Schneider in a game against Carroll College.

1921 – Walter Johnson becomes MLB’s all-time strikeout leader with 2,287 career K’s.

1972 – 11 Israeli athletes are taken hostage and later killed by a Palestinian terrorist group at the Munich Olympics.

1989 – Chris Evert’s legendary tennis career comes to an end with a loss in the quarterfinals of the US Open. Evert finishes with a career record of 1,304-145 and 18 Grand Slam titles.

1994 – Jerry Rice becomes the NFL’s career touchdown leader after finding the end zone for the 127^th time.
