1917 – Pirates outfielder Carson Bigbee sets an MLB record with 11 at bats in a 22 inning game.

1959 – The AFL officially forms.

1965 – Giants pitcher Juan Marachal hits Dodger catcher John Roseboro on the head with a bat.

1980 – White Sox owner Bill Veeck agrees to sell the team to Eddie DeBartolo for $20 million. AL owners block the sale.

1989 – Nolan Ryan records career strikeout #5,000.

2007 – The Texas Rangers score the most runs in modern MLB history in a 30-3 win over the Orioles.
