1965 – Brooks Robinson ties an MLB record by hitting into his third career triple play.

1973 – Hank Aaron sets an MLB record by hitting his 1,378^th career extra base hit, passing Stan Musial for the most all-time.

1982 – The longest game ever played at Wrigley Field comes to an end with the Dodgers beating the Cubs 2-1 in 22 innings. The game began on August 17.

1987 – Legendary NFL running back Earl Campbell announces his retirement.

2004 – The US women’s 4×200 freestyle relay team break the world record time, which was set back in 1987.

2016 – Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt wins the gold in the 200 meter dash for the third straight Olympics.
