1960 – The first game of the American Football League takes place as the Patriots defeated the Bills 28-7.
1961 – The Phillies lose the first of 23 consecutive games.
1986 – The United State Football League wins its lawsuit against the NFL, with a jury determining that the NFL violated antitrust laws. The USFL is awarded a grand total of $1.
1989 – The White Sox trade Harold Baines to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Scott Fletcher and Sammy Sosa.
1990 – The Red Sox set an MLB record with 12 doubles in a game.
1995 – The Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars face each other in the first exhibition game for each franchise. The Panthers won 20-14.
2003 – Bill Mueller of the Boston Red Sox becomes the first player in MLB history to hit a grand slam from each side of the plate in the same game.
