1919 – Jack Dempsey wins the world heavyweight title when Jess Willard fails to leave his corner for the fourth round.
1939 – Lou Gehrig makes his iconic speech, declaring himself the “luckiest man on the face of the Earth.” at Yankee Stadium He’s the first player to have his number retired in the history of MLB.
1960 – Mickey Mantle becomes the 18th player in MLB history to hit 300 career home runs.
1980 – Nolan Ryan record career strikeout #3,000, becoming the fourth pitcher to reach that milestone.
