1909 – Jim Thorpe makes his pro baseball debut for Rocky Mount of the ECL. This will eventually cause him to have to forfeit his Olympic gold medals.

1938 – Jimmie Foxx of the Boston Red Sox sets an MLB record by being walked six times in one game.

1970 – Bears running back Brian Piccolo passes away from cancer.

1975 – The MIlwaukee Bucks trade Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to the Lakers.

1981 – The Chicago Tribune buys the Cubs from the Wrigley Chewing Gum Company for $20.5 million.

1985 – Willie Banks breaks the world record in the triple jump with a leap of 58 feet, 11.5 inches in the USA championships held in Indianapolis.

1991 – Otis Nixon of the Montreal Expos breaks an MLB record by recording six stolen bases in one game.

1993 – Michael Jordan becomes the first player in NBA finals history to score 50 or more points in a game since 1969 after dropping 55 against Phoenix.

1995 – Salt Lake City, Utah is awarded the Winter Olympics in 2002.

1996 – The Bulls defeat the Seattle Supersonics in six games to win the NBA championship.

1998 – The Detroit Red Wings complete a sweep of the Washington Capitals to win their second straight Stanley Cup.

2012 – Lake Central defeats Roncalli 1-0 to win the 4A baseball state championship.

2015 – The Golden State Warriors win the NBA title, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games.

2018: Boone Grove wins their first baseball state championship, defeating Southridge 5-4.
