1873 – “Survivor” wins the first Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
1876 – Boston pitcher Joe Borden throws the first no-hitter in National League history.
1901 – The Cleveland Blues, later known as the Indians, score nine runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Washington Senators 14-13.
1922 – Harry Greb defeats Gene Tunney at Madison Square Garden to win the American light heavyweight title. It is the only loss in Tunney’s career.
2002 – Shawn Green of the Los Angeles Dodgers becomes the 14th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in one game.
2009 – Alabama softball pitcher Kelsi Dunne becomes the first player in NCAA history to throw no-hitters in back to back postseason games.
2010 – The Blackhawks complete a sweep of the San Jose Sharks to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
