SOFTBALL: Four Seasons Mechanical Top 10 for Week of 4/16/18

#10.
LACROSSE TIGERS
5-1

LAST WEEK: NR

It’s not often little LaCrosse makes it into an RSN Top 10 of any kind – as a matter of fact, this may be a first for the school, and it’s well warranted. The Tigers can score in bunches, having plated 19 runs in one game and 21 in another. Can they keep it up and do they have enough pitching for the long run are the questions now.

#9.
LAPORTE SLICERS
4-2

LAST WEEK: #10

The Lady Slicers are doing their best to make a name for themselves at the state’s most prestigious baseball school. If they can pick up conference wins against Lake Central and Chesterton this week, they’ll start to gain respect and take a jump in the rankings as well.

#8.
HIGHLAND TROJANS
3-3

LAST WEEK: #7

The girls of Troy are finding out that last year doesn’t mean much this year. With so much tough competition in the Region, it all comes down to “what have you done for me lately?” In Highland’s case, not much. They eeked out a win against Hobart before getting slaughtered in five innings by KV. Injuries have been an issue, but so has their pitching, hitting and defense. Time to toughen up – or forget about a repeat.

#7.
BOONE GROVE WOLVES
4-0

LAST WEEK: #9

If Tuesday’s weather doesn’t get any worse, the Wolves will travel south to take on the Kougars with a K. We know how good KV is, so this game will show us how good Boone is. Maybe it’ll be warmer way down in the Demotte/Wheatfield area and they’ll be able to get this one in.

#6.
LOWELL RED DEVILS
3-1

LAST WEEK: #6

A showdown with rival KV was wiped out Monday but the weather is expected to be better come Thursday, the planned make up day. The Devils would love nothing more than to knock the Kougars from atop their perch in the conference. Can they do it? We’ll find out Thursday…maybe.

#5.
MUNSTER MUSTANGS
5-2

LAST WEEK: #5

The Lady Stangs are fun to watch because they play hard, all the time – a reflection of their coach, Beth Raspopovich. Superstar senior Rebecca Radtke leads a talented roster of players. The Class 4A sectional one will be a meat grinder come tournament time, just don’t count the Mustangs out. This team is for real.

#4.
CHESTERTON TROJANS
5-2

LAST WEEK: #2

The expectations are extremely high for the Lady Cheez this season – none of which included two losses in the first seven games. Just the same, it’s the next seven – actually, it’s the final seven games that mean the most to this team, not the first seven. But it’s not like the road gets easier.

#3.
CROWN POINT BULLDOGS
6-1

LAST WEEK: #4

The Bulldog softballers keep on keepin’ on. The defending champs want a crack at LC, but Old Man Winter keeps rearing his ugly head. As of now the game is scheduled for Thursday – a day with no snow in the forecast!

#2.
KV KOUGARS
4-0

LAST WEEK: #3

The Lady Kougars have been dominant so far. Monday’s Top 10 contest with rival Lowell was wiped out for the time being, as was the much anticipated match up with Lake Central this past Saturday. Monday’s game with Lowell has been pushed to Thursday, while the game with LC has been rescheduled for Saturday May 18.

#1.
LAKE CENTRAL INDIANS
8-0

LAST WEEK: #1

Mother Nature robbed softball fans of a #1 vs #2 match up on Saturday, as the Lake Central Classic was cancelled due to the miserable conditions. Such a game would have been a great measuring stick for both teams. Monday’s make up with Crown Point has been postponed three times so far and is now scheduled for Thursday. Here’s an idea – move it to May.
