1969 – Detroit’s Alex Delvecchio becomes the third player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points.

1970 – Joe Frazier retains his world heavyweight title with a fifth round knockout of Jimmy Ellis.

1972 – Wilt Chamberlain, then playing with the Lakers, becomes the first player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points.

1985 – 43,816 people attend a game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Detroit Pistons in the Motor City. It’s the largest crowd to date in NBA history.

1992 – The LA Lakers retire Magic Johnson’s jersey.

1992 – Martina Navratilova becomes women’s tennis career singles titles leader by winning her 158th singles championship.

1992 – Michael Goulet of the Blackhawks becomes the 17th player in NHL history to score 500 career goals.

1994 – John Stockton becomes the third guard in NBA history to record 9,000 career assists.

1997 – At 25 years old, Jeff Gordon becomes the youngest NASCAR driver to win the Daytona 500.

2001 – Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown picks up professional career victory #1,000, if you combine his NBA and ABA totals.

2004 – The Pittsburgh Penguins tie an NHL record by losing their 12th straight game.

2017 – Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby records his 1,000th career point.

2020 – An NBA All-Star Game is held at the United Center in Chicago. Team LeBron defeated Team Giannis, 157-155.
