  • 1869 – The Cincinnati Reds play in their first baseball game. They win 41-7.

  • 1933 – Cecil Travis becomes the first player in MLB history to get five hits in one game.

  • 1976 – The Montreal Canadiens sweep the Philadelphia Flyers to win the Stanley Cup.

  • 1980 – With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar injured, Magic Johnson plays center for the Lakers, scoring 42 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing out seven assists as LA defeats Boston to win the NBA championship.

  • 1985 – Michael Jordan is named NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds. 5.9 assists & 2.4 steals.

  • 1996 – Sammy Sosa is the first player in Cub history to hit two home runs in one inning.

  • 2001 – Sammy Sosa hits career homer #400.
